At the Children's Arts Project, we believe that everyone has a right to experience the arts and to express themselves freely and creatively.  CAP is dedicated to providing a significant portion of our programs free-of-charge and has scholarship opportunities available to families who might otherwise not be able to attend our fee-based programs.

CAP regularly works in partnership to provide arts related services for children at risk. Partners in our outreach efforts have included the Solomon House of Huntersville, St. Mark’s Catholic Church, the Buddy Kemp Caring House of Charlotte and the Connie Company of Davidson. Outreach programs are diverse and have included the following:

  • Art classes and summer camps for children in the Smithville Park neighborhood of Cornelius

  • Parent/child play days for families attending the Haven Hatchery Preschool in Huntersville

  • Family Fun Days for the residents of Olde Mill Village in Cornelius

  • Art classes for middle-school students as part of the Solomon House teen drop-in at Lakehaven Church

  • Art Exploration as part of the annual community dinner on the Davidson Town Green

  • DrumFest at Smithville Park in Cornelius

  • Art in the Park, pop-up at Holbrook and North Meck Parks in Huntersville

CAP community service includes sharing in community events such as Christmas in Davidson, Black History Month in Cornelius, initiating free festivals at CAP such as our annual Have a Heart Valentine’s Party, support of arts advocacy initiatives, such as, the North Mecklenburg Cultural Action Plan sponsored by the Arts & Sciences Council and offering scholarships to area families in need.

If you know of an organization, community or agency that might benefit from an arts outreach event or if your agency/company would be willing to sponsor such an event, please contact us.
